Interviews with NYC's Indie Theatre Directors

Welcome to DirectorSpeak

Cat Parker

Heya!

That’s my traditional greeting, and it seemed appropriate to start this blog with a word that, for me, says “casual, friendly & welcoming” which is how I’d like this blog to be.

DirectorSpeak is my forum for speaking about all the aspects of my life – and especially how they impact my life as a director. I believe that directing is half craft and half art, and that an artist’s work is impacted by everything around them. So while the central theme here is about the art and craft of directing, don’t be surprised to find a post about how directing is like gardening! or how bringing a dog into your life can be similar to bringing a new play into your life! or how moving into a new home can inspire the world of a play! Here’s a little about the categories of this blog:

NYC Indie Directors: The key impetus for this blog is to have a place to share my interviews with New York City’s “Indie” directors. A while back I was kvetching about not having a gig lined up and wondering how other directors got work and built careers in this difficult city. So, I decided to ask them! And others said they were interested too, so I decided a blog would be a good way to share my discoveries. Look for the category “NYC Indie Directors” to keep abreast of those interviews.

Health: In August of 2011, I watched a documentary called “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” that changed my life. Not only did it give me a way to lose a lot of weight, it helped me take back control of my health (important when you don’t have insurance!). Along the way I’ve learned a lot about nutrition and the facts behind the food that we eat. If you are interested in this topic, look for posts about “Health.”

Dog-a-licious!: Yeah, I know, my name is Cat, but I have a thing for dogs! Posts in this category will be about my dog – JR, dog rescue, and dog stuff in general. If you’re into animals, these posts will be for you!

Rants: We all have them – things that make us crazy.  And this is where I’ll tell you about mine.

And that’s it for my first post! Whew – this was tougher than I thought. I hope you enjoyed it, and that you’ll come back again!

Peace,

Cat
